Projects

The IMARE GmbH operates the Centre for aquaculture research (ZAF) and carries out internal and external projects of applied science and development. Our work includes on the one hand the development and improvement of recirculating technology for the welfare conditions and environmentally sound production of aquatic organism. On the other hand the integration of more production levels for a nutrient efficient total production can be investigated. This so-called Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) uses the waste materials (anorganic and organic particle) of the higher organisms (e.g. fish) as fertiliser or feed for additional products (e.g. algae, mussels, marine worms). This culture system increases not only the nutrient efficiency but also raises the total production of biomass for additional yield. Further research interests deal with new aquaculture candidates (fish, shellfish, molluscs or algae). The modern research also focuses on alternative protein sources in diets and feed additives, which support health and fitness as well as stress resistance.

Here you can find descriptions of current and past projects dealing with recirculating technologies.

Contract research

The ZAF also focuses on joint research and development with external partners from research and industry. These projects are not always named. All rights to contents are subjected by the customers and kept in confidence.

Projects

  • Investigation of different commercial dry feeds in experiments with turbot (Scophthalmus maximus).
